"Falling Back into Love" with Christ - 20 April 2022

A couple years ago, when I was a family studies major, I learned that when the initial thrill and excitement of marriage wears off and life gets more busy and complicated, many couples start to feel as though they are falling out of love. At such times, it is essential to make a conscious choice to regularly do the things that helped them to fall in love in the first place. By intentionally making time for each other and prioritizing activities like the ones they did together when initially dating, they can often fall back into love.
Similarly, many of us have had powerful experiences of connection with God that once caused us to "fall in love" with Him and "sing the song of redeeming love" (Alma 5:26). However, as our lives get crazier and more chaotic, those initial feelings of awe and magic can quickly fade, and God can begin to feel abstract, distant, or muted to us. We can even sometimes feel like we are falling out of HIS love.
Especially in times like these, it is easy to let fatigue, darkness, or spiritual apathy settle in. But even when we tire of reaching out to Him, Christ never tires of reaching out to us. Whenever we find that we have gotten distracted, we need only to recommit ourselves to consistently and intentionally doing the simple things together with Him that caused us to fall in love in the first place.
"When we intentionally and truly dedicate ourselves to look unto Him and learn from His perfect example, we come to know Him better. We grow in enthusiasm and desire.... I pray that we will ever stand in awe of Jesus Christ and His complete, infinite, and perfect love." - Elder Ulisses Soares
