Do it WITH the Lord - 1 December 2021

Tonight I had a chemistry assignment that I needed to complete. The work that was required didn't seem as significant or meaningful as other things I wanted to do. But I made myself sit down and do it, pondering how I could find joy in this assignment when it seemed my work would cause me to miss opportunities to connect with God or other people.

Even though I wasn't expecting it, I found that as I did my work, I DID find joy! As I pondered on why this might be, I realized that it was because I didn't do my chemistry assignment alone! I did it together WITH the Lord. When parts of the assignment weren't immediately clear I silently prayed for help and strength to maintain a Christlike attitude and keep working through it. When I learned or experienced progress I quickly said a silent prayer of gratitude for the Lord's strength and help. I learned that I didn't have to turn away from the Lord to do my secular work; instead, I enjoyed His companionship through the Spirit as I worked through it with Him!

These words from the Book of Mormon came to me with new meaning: "Yea, and cry unto God for all thy support; yea, let all thy doings be unto the Lord, and whithersoever thou goest let it be in the Lord; yea, let all thy thoughts be directed unto the Lord; yea, let the affections of thy heart be placed upon the Lord forever" (Alma 37:36). Wherever we go and whatever we do, we don't have to be alone if we choose to work together with the Lord!
